Biography of Mary Hjerlied
I was born in Washington D.C. I married at 18 and went to work as an executive secretary for the Central intelligence Agency for three years. I had two sons from my marriage. Twelve years later I divorced. I moved to Colorado in October of 1981 and stayed with my older brother and his wife until I got on my feet. I had no college so while I was working at Rocky Flats (a former nuclear weapons plant) I obtained a two-year Associates of General Studies degree. It was there I found out that I had a talent for writing. I joined the Colorado Romance Writers in 1994 where I met many fellow writers who shared the motto "Together We Can." In September of 1995 I remarried. My friend and mentor Jane McBride Choate, who is multipublished, and I have been meeting once a week critiquing my work for the past six years. It was she who introduced me to magazine article writing and I have been published in Affair de Coeur magazine, Just Labs (arson dogs), Arabella, Chicken Soup for the Caregivers Soul, Writers Journal and many more. I have written three books, two of which have recently sold. Each year I attend writer meetings, workshops, and conventions to hone my craft. I also belong to two other writer groups, one of which is inspirational.
