EXCERPT
"Someone put a bullet in his head last night, round about the time you were there." Tony sat back with a satisfied smirk on his face.
"Like Flanagan," said Reilly, frowning.
"Yes, like Flanagan. Isn't it strange that you always seem to be visiting someone who ends up dead?"
"How do you know what time I was seeing him?" said Reilly frowning at the information. He had a good idea, but he figured he'd let them wriggle out of naming Ally.
"We have our ways. You're in big trouble this time, Reilly."
"Really? You haven't found a weapon. All you know is that I visited Grey last night. Anyone could have seen him after I left."
"Sure," said Tony controlling himself. "Two dead men, two drug dealers and a dead hooker. Of course your business was legitimate?"
"Of course. I don't know anything about drugs. Now are you going to charge me or do I have to call a lawyer?"
He had them again and Tony knew it. He bit his lip unable to make a charge.
The door suddenly opened and Cullen entered with Sanders. Tony looked at them, then at Reilly. Reilly suddenly sat up with a jolt. "Inspector Sanders and Inspector Cullen have entered the room."
"Hello, Reilly," said Cullen grinning at him. "Long time no see."
"Not long enough, you arse hole," said Reilly, scowling.
"You've met him?" asked Tony. Reilly wasn't happy but noted the look on his face expressing his surprise.
"We've met," said Reilly before Cullen could answer. "The prick has been trying to hang stuff on me for a while now."
"Yes, unfortunately it hasn't stuck, but it will, Reilly, it will."
"You were a wanker then and you're a wanker now, Cullen."
"What do you know about a drug shipment about to hit Melbourne?"
"Same as you. Nothing," said Reilly insolently.
"And I suppose you're here on a holiday," said Cullen, still grinning.
"Yeah, the stress of Sydney was getting me down. Police harassment all the time. It looks like it's the same here."
"I hear you came with a girl to help you out."
"Heather. Shit, you have no idea do you. She's just a girl I picked up in Sydney. All I wanted was a good sex partner. She filled the bill beautifully until these pricks told her to go home." "And now you're all alone. I think I'll get my hankie out."
"I've never been without a woman for long, Cullen. Are you still corrupt and taking handouts?"
Cullen gave out a laugh. "You'll never change, Reilly. You'll try anything to allay suspicion. Trying to turn us against each other is kid's stuff. I'll be watching you like a hawk, as I'm sure Detective Senior Sergeant Melissa will be."
"Bruce Cooke pens a love story with plenty of suspense. There are surprises and some nail biting situations throughout... The ending is everything I want in a great book. Dialogue and scenarios are well done to keep us guessing. This author shows tremendous potential as a writer of romantic suspense."
