J.T. Romano slipped out the tiny restaurant's side door and into the foggy June night.A heavy mist rose off the bay, masking the beach road and turning the street lamps into pale, hovering ghosts.The damp air smelled of tomato sauce and brine.One car passed, its taillights winking like giant crimson eyes in the haze.
He leaned against the restaurant's rough brick wall and massaged his knotted neck muscles.Returning to his old hometown of Snake Bayou, Mississippi, and to Romano's in particular, was eating away at his nerves.Yet sooner or later, the stress would be worth it.
He'd have his wife's killer — and his revenge.

"First of all, I loved the opening of this book. It grabbed my attention and made me want to read more...I loved both the characters of J.T and Kelly. Atkins does a super job of making you feel the danger and the passion along with them. The dialogue is natural and the back story about the couple unfolds at just the right spots in the plot. There’s lots of sexual tension and lots of stuff I didn’t see coming. The secondary characters are also well drawn and add more layers to an already solid story...Cherished Witness is the first of six titles in the series. I can’t wait to read the second one."
