When Zoe Mack moves in with her grandparents to start college, she's thrown into more mystery than she bargained for. Her cousin, Emma, is terrorized by a stalker who breaks into her house and leaves a photo-shopped image of Emma hanging from a tree. Nothing is as it seems and Emma soon learns that even the man she thinks she can trust is suspect.

Zoe can't wait to reunite with Nate, the bad boy who doesn't talk about his feelings much, but the passionate kiss he gave her last summer had to have meant something. When she arrives back in town and discovers that he's in trouble with the law, she must take matters into her own hands in order to clear his name. She has her hands full with a needy Emma, a cop who gives her the creeps, and Nate, the guy she desperately wants to call her own. Can Zoe solve the mystery, clear Nate's name, and make him fall in love with her?

EXCERPT

Nate stroked my arm, his fingers leaving a trail of heat as they whispered across my skin. "I'm sorry about everything. Can we just start over like it never happened?"

"Start where?"

"Here," he said as he turned me to face him, his soft lips meeting mine.

I gave myself away to the mastery of his kiss, surprised to find the hint of menthol lingering on his lips pleasant. The meeting of our lips was similar to what I'd experienced last year, but more demanding. It wasn't a friendly kiss, it was a searing kiss of passion and need. He pulled away and looked at me with such longing that I sensed Nate needed something more from me than the physical; he needed emotional support that only I could supply.

His hands moved up and down my back and I shivered as his lips met mine again. I lost all reason, caught up in his kiss. All thought of Laken forgotten, I enjoyed his touch.

I pulled away first, breathless. Nate had done nothing wrong. His hands hadn't wandered to inappropriate places. He hadn't taken more than I was willing to give. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, but he scared me. My heart was taking me into unchartered waters and, while it was where I wanted to be, I was terrified that things might not work out.

Nate was more than a guy friend, he was my best friend. I knew the risks. There was a chance I could lose him forever. Just the thought of us hating each other was more than I could bear.

"Come here, baby," he said, pulling me to him so that my head once more rested against his chest.
