Joan Ravell thought she'd pretty much had her life figured out until a hit squad shows up interrupting that carefully laid out delusion. Next thing she knows, she finds herself drawn into the first Vampire war in three thousands years. That wouldn't be so bad, but her dead lover turns up unabashedly alive, truly blowing her world apart. Fighting emotions she'd locked away ages ago, Joan must team with the one time love of her life to unravel the ancient secret that now threatens not only the Vampire race but the entire world. Can the world survive a tension that's been building for over three thousand years? Oh, and then there's the Vampires planning to bring back the ultimate evil. Just another small problem to deal with when you're the original Queen of the Damned.
EXCERPT
"Yohanan, just settle down." Draken waved his hands toward me.
"You settle the frak down." Big mistake. I still had a gun and wasn't afraid to use it. "If I want to freak the crap out, you can't stop me. Hell, you're the reason I'm freaking out."
"I know. If there had been any other way to stop them from getting to this close to you, I would have never have let you know I still alive." He took a step back as I waved my big gun at him. "There wasn't."
"Screw that! You have five seconds to tell me why you aren't dead before I start snapping off rounds into your head." I threw the stock against my shoulder and took aim. "Just so you know, I am quite proficient with this thing."
"Yohanan, we really don't have time for this." His gaze swept back to the doorway. "These guys had backup, and it won't take them long to figure out that their A-Team got their butts kicked."
"Stop calling me that. You lost that right when you didn't die and showed up to tell me you didn't die." I slammed a round into the chamber. "Now, tell me why you aren't dead."
"If I give you the CliffsNotes version, will you drop the gun and come with me?" His eyes shot back to the door.
"You're out of your mind if you think I'm leaving this gun." I tapped the barrel of the gun against the side of my head. "But, if you make it good, I'll consider only giving you a flesh wound. Then, I might go with you."
"Dammit, Joan! You haven't changed a bit. You're still as hardheaded as you always were. It's a wonder someone hasn't killed you long before now." He slapped a hand against his forehead. "Can't you just trust me long enough to save your life?"
I popped a cap into the floor between his feet. "No." Evil, wasn't I?
"I love the humor and sarcasm Mr. Morgan injects into his writing, and the multitude of pop culture references continues to make me laugh at his sense of the absurd. The characters are all so much larger than life... There is lots of action and humor in this story, along with a sweet romantic reunion. Joan and Draken get their happy forever after, and with it comes a marvelous surprise for them...I was sad to see the end of the Love Bites series. But be warned, he promises to continue with the next part of the saga with the first of five books in the upcoming Bite Marks books, carrying on where the Love Bites series ended. I recommend this series for those who like laughter, sarcasm and a lot of romantic silliness in their lives."
Foxglove -- Long and Short Reviews Rating = 4.5 Books NOMINATED FOR BOOK OF THE WEEK!
"From the man who told us "Vampires do NOT glitter" comes another fun ride!!.. What's great about this story is how it brings together all of the events of the first 4 books, and reintroduces us to all of those characters we fell in love with before and have since been wondering what's happened to. Of course there are the Morgan staples: fast-paced plot, snark, humor, tons o' pop culture references (including a nod and wave to Tolkien, which I loved), Greek mythology, cleverly disguised curse words, and a sweet love story. He even throws in a werewolf or two, because you can't have a paranormal gumbo without a side of fur. Everything is layered, and he does a fantastic job of connecting the pieces. I highly recommend this read for anyone looking for something fun, fresh, and fanged... And though Bk 5 ends the first part of this great saga, there's more to come with the Bite Marks series, which will pick up where Love Bites leaves off! Morgan's going to have to write faster, because I can't wait!"
