EXCERPT
Robbie immediately felt repentant and shamefaced. The fury disappeared immediately, and she felt pleasantly warm that he might just care.
"Oh. Maybe I was a little hasty in my judgment."
She decided she should offer him an apology so next morning she went searching for him. He wasn't in his quarters or at the showers; however, she eventually found him in the milking shed.
He looked up to see her hesitantly approaching him. "I thought you weren't ever again going to speak to me," he said, returning to his task.
She stood there, arms behind her back, her face reddening with shame, and launched into an awkward apology. "Sometimes I have a big mouth," she said feeling very uncomfortable. "It's my turn to apologise, and I'm sorry. I promise never to fly off the handle again, at least not until I've heard the full story," she added with a soft smile.
He tried to keep a grim face to make her suffer but couldn't help himself. His face etched a smile, and once again she started to melt. "I accept and I'll hold you to your promise. I'd hate it if you ever fell into Bluey's clutches."
"Thank you for worrying about me; maybe there's hope for me yet."
"You'll be the death of me one day," he said shaking his head.
"Don't say that, even as a joke. I'd be devastated if I lost you. Oops, sorry, I know I agreed not to put pressure on you, but I'm still very confused."
"Come here," he commanded forcefully, and she tentatively stepped forward. Any other time she would have told him where to go.
He put his arms around her and gave her a hug and a light kiss on the forehead. "That makes two of us."
"Are we still friends?" she asked.
"You bet," he answered still holding her. "But you're the most aggravating female I've ever met."
"But you like me?" she said hopefully.
"Yes, I bloody well like you."
"Then bloody well prove it."
He lifted her chin and kissed her, causing her to gasp. She immediately returned the kiss, putting her arms around him, feeling the muscles of his back through his thin shirt, feeling his arms entrapping her to his chest, not wanting the kiss to end. When he released her, she walked away feeling light headed.
"It’s been a long time since I’ve read an excellent novel that focused more on story and character development and less on sex. The Baringup Dynasty is a captivating story told in the most creative way by Bruce Cooke... The Baringup Dynasty is a spectacularly told story and all credit goes to Bruce Cooke."
