When Paula's husband leaves her to "find himself" after years of a good marriage, she is devastated. Adding to her hurt and anger, he joins a band and dates the band's sexy young singer. Forced to start over again in the job market, she goes back to school for a degree in Special Education.

Here she meets Derek, a retired naval officer, back in college to qualify for a second career. As Paula learns to cope in a whole new world, she is surprised to "find herself" falling in love again. And starting over proves to be better than she could have ever imagined.

EXCERPT

"Come dance with me, Paula." Derek took her wrist, turned her around, spilling the rest of the champagne on his sleeve.

"No, I--"

"We haven't danced all night." His other arm was firmly around her waist, leading her back toward the patio.

"But I have to--"

They were on the patio now, and he held her close, making her forget for a moment what it was she wanted to do, had to do.

"There's too many people here," he whispered close to her ear. "Let's take a drive."

"Now?" She missed a step, and he held her more tightly. Her head was spinning, and she couldn't seem to focus her eyes.

"Yes, love. Now."

Keeping a gentle grip on her, he guided her to the door, through the hallway. Once outside the house, he gathered her up, carried her to his car and, opening the door with one hand, gently placed her inside.

Derek drove slowly, letting the wind from the open windows cool them. Finally he stopped the car and Paula, who had been experiencing the weightlessness of a ride in space, asked dreamily, "Where are we?"

"Coach House Inn," Derek said quietly. "You're invited in for coffee."

Walking on air, Paula allowed herself to be led through the deserted lobby and up the ancient elevator to Derek's room.

A hurricane lamp glowed from a table beside the mahogany four-poster bed, casting soft shadows on the floral wallpaper.

Paula turned to face Derek, making a concerted effort to focus her eyes. "How dare he do that?"

"What?" Derek asked, obviously taken aback at Paula's sudden vehemence.

"Give her Christopher Columbus."

"Who?" He looked even more bewildered, and then understanding dawned on his face. "You mean the rose."

"It isn't fair. She's young and pretty and talented, and she's got great legs."

"If you want a woman who looks like an ice skater. Some of us don't--"

"And big bosoms."

"Too big." Paula glared at him. "Quent likes big bosoms." She dropped her arms to her sides, thrust out her chest.

"And look at me. Thirty-two A."

"You're perfect."

"So why did my husband leave me?"

"Beats hell out of me, lady."

"So he could have a sexy young singer like her." Paula swallowed a sob in her throat and hiccupped.

"Paula." Derek took her shoulders gently. "Come sit down and I'll call room service for coffee."

"No!" she pulled back, and the walls started spinning so that she reached for Derek as he reached to steady her. And then she was in his arms, and he was kissing her. Gently at first then with a passion that left them both breathless.

"Summer Love is a story of when our life throws us a curveball and we are unsure of where to turn. But we make the best choices we can, and find out that usually we find ourselves stronger and in a better place for it. Great characters and an excellent storyline make this book worth your time to read it."

Matilda - CoffeeTime Romance Reviews
Rating = 4 cups

"This was a fascinating book that dealt with an issue that a lot of women face today. Ms. Swift has captured the "distraught in the beginning, strong as steel in the end" type of woman. Through struggles, disappointments, tears, laughter and a whole lot of humor, Summer Love is a must read book for those who love to read heart-wrenching, enchanting and genuine romances. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Swifts work."

Val -- You Gotta Read Reviews

"Swift engages the reader with interesting characters and a compelling plot. She uses a good economy of words to paint the setting and descriptions. Paula enjoys gardening and roses are her favorite. The Christopher Columbus rose is dear to her and symbolic of love - love of family, heart, and home... "Summer Love" will have the reader turning the pages to find out what happens next."

"This is a delightful story of a woman who, during one summer, discovers what she really wants from life... Paula's 'Summer Love' finally helps her to decide where her future really lies. I won't spoil the ending, but I breathed a sigh of relief as I realised she'd made the right decision."
