AVAILABLE MARCH 1, 2011

Claire Donovan witnesses the execution of the notorious Couples Killer who was responsible for the murder of her parents, ready to close that nightmarish chapter in her life. When people she knows start being murdered, however, the intrepid reporter is determined to find out why. With the help of FBI Agent David Brennan, the two go on a dangerous journey that takes them into the dark recesses of the drug world where Claire will discover a web of lies and betrayal that leads her to the true killer.

EXCERPT

She tried to distance herself from those around her, concerned she was putting them in danger. She needed to warn Manuel about the man watching him. Shifting her eyes from one man to the other, she made her way toward him. Manuel was crossing the street in her direction, his shoulders hunched as his eyes darted around him. Claire knew in that moment that things were beyond her control, a helpless feeling enveloped her, and she felt she was teetering on the edge of a cliff looking for something desperately to hold on to and realizing there was nothing there but thin air. Her eyes widened as she saw the shadow-man bolt from the doorway and stride toward Manuel.

"No." Her warning was lost in the din of the city noise.

The man strode toward Manuel with almost choreographed fluidity, pulling the gun and firing without breaking pace. Her eyes were fastened on him for an instance as he turned to look right at her, fixing her eyes in a stare before he concealed the gun and kept on walking, losing himself in the sudden chaos. Claire's scream was lost in a chorus of others as she saw the blood fly and Manuel drop to the ground like a puppet whose strings had been cut.

The next moments were a blur as cars screeched to a halt and horrified on-lookers stood stunned. Two men in suits seemed to come out of nowhere, one in pursuit of the shooter, the other trying to make his way to the body. The crowd was in a panic, trying to find cover, all but Claire who rushed to Manuel and dropped to her knees, her face pale with shock and grief. The side of his head was oozing blood as she felt for a pulse, but could find no sign of life. Her eyes clouded with tears as she grabbed his hand, noticing a slip of paper tucked inside. She took it just as a man came up to the scene, the tip of his brown loafers in her peripheral vision, and instinct told her to slip the paper into her coat pocket before she looked up.

When she did, she got the surprise of her life.

"Ms. Donovan, what a coincidence," Dave Brennan said. He grabbed her elbow and helped her up from the crimson-pooled asphalt. "How did you come to be here tonight?"

Claire tried to find her voice. She was mired in confusion and didn't want to make a false move. Manuel's blood stained the front of her coat where she'd knelt down beside him and she began to tremble. Seeing Brennan again unnerved her almost as much as Manuel's death. What was he doing here? How much should she reveal, if anything at all?

"Ms. Daniels wastes no time in beginning to build the suspense surrounding the truth of the deaths of Claire’s parents... I enjoyed reading Web of Murder. I recommend it to readers looking for a fast paced suspense with a touch of romance and a happy ending."
