A Desert Breeze Publishing Free Read

Matthias hasn't particularly enjoyed Christmas in the past. The feral nature of the werewolf has never been easy to tame - especially around the holidays.

This year the season promises to be different. Matthias is recently married and surrounded by his family, but when his wife, Katherine, finds a beautiful Hungarian Vizsla she wants to take in, a ghost begins to haunt them. Will the eerie apparition threaten his family's Christmas joy?

EXCERPT

A sequel to Budapest Moon Book One: The Hungarian

"Do you want a girl or a boy?" she asked.

He laced their fingers together. "It doesn't matter. I just want a healthy baby. You know, I'm worried--"

"Don't be. This baby was conceived in love and I'm human. Our baby won't be born with fur."

"You don't know how my wolfen nature will affect him or her."

"No, I don't, but I'm not worried."

He cupped her cheek, pressing his lean, muscular body against hers. "You seem so sure."

"Resa believes the baby will be born human and I trust her." Resa was the gypsy witch that her husband had employed to help with his transformations during the full moon. She also was a nanny to his four-year-old daughter, Emily. Emily was his daughter by his first wife, Beth. Beth has died in the wolf attack that had made Matthias a wolf.

Matthias slowly nodded his head. "We should go."

Joe yipped his protest. "What about Joe?"

"I think we should leave him here for now."

"Give me a minute to lay out a blanket and some extra water for him.

Katherine grabbed some blankets while Matthias put out two bowls full of water. A dark shadow fell across the back room's small window that overlooked the alley. Matthias and Katherine looked toward the shadow.

Matthias's eyes narrowed. "Do you see it?"

She grew cold and wrapped her arms around herself. "Yes."

Matthias walked outside through the small back door. Katherine watched her husband from the window. Joe stood protectively next to her leg.

Take care of him.

Katherine shook her head, looked out the window, then at the dog, then back at the window. The shadow was gone.
